About SEACHANGE

SEACHANGE is a collection of ancient geometric symbols that communicate the elemental relationship of humanity to timeless wisdom and understanding. The symbols are not about words, ideology, religion, or current discourse on the state of our planet. They arise from foundations on which our global community is built: Love, Understanding, and Awareness.

Donna Hiebert created SEACHANGE to shake up the conventions of jewelry and take it to a place that's avant garde and ancient at the same time. Her work transcends the notion of mere adornment to become "embellishments for humanity". SEACHANGE is Hiebert's art; neither jewellery nor sculpture. Like art, it has depth and meaning and is exhibited, not in galleries, but on the bodies of the human beings who influence our planet.

Worn by both men and women, the embellishments are bold and transformative to any style or influence. Like nature, they adapt to any occasion or season. Like humanity, they connect a community of people who embody a common dream for peace and harmony.

Hiebert is an accomplished sculptor and award winning goldsmith. Her focus on the making of precious jewelry using sculptural sensibilities has garnered much attention and has placed her worked into a category of its own. As an artist with a message, she wants her work to speak to a broad audience of people who live on the fringes of conventionality and share her philosophy. She speaks to a community of people who have the courage and vision to affect positive change through love, understanding and awareness.

"Full fathom five thy father lies:
Of his bones are coral made:
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange."
From Shakespeare's Tempest

Materials, treatments and finishes

The pendants, bangles, chokers and earrings are bronze. We use bronze because of its noble history, extreme malleability, and it patinas beautifully. For our Capitella Capitata earrings we use 18Ky ear wire to ensure maximum wear ability. Our unique clasp - which we call the ballast - is a unique combination key/rare earth magnet closure. The ballast allows us to create pendants that are uniquely balanced and very comfortable to wear.

Our bronze elements are patinated using recipes that have existed for millennia. At present we use three recipes that produce finishes we have named Tide, Dusk and Embers. We carefully hand wax each piece to protect the patina. Each one is distinctive and the patina will continue to mature over time.

The pendants are suspended from three materials:

Amsteel rope, the strongest nautical rope in the world
100% black Italian cashmere
Horween waterproof leather

Care

We make our embellishments for humanity to travel the world with you. They are rugged and durable (who said beauty and strength can't go together). Here are our care tips:

Wax the bronze once in a while - this will preserve the patina (we use Mother's liquid carnauba wax - follow directions).
Amsteel grey can be worn in salt and fresh water.
Horween Portsmouth leather is waterproof but take care with salt water - rinse thoroughly after immersion.
Take care of your cashmere! Just like your favorite sweater. We do not recommend fresh or salt water immersion. When required gently hand wash in cold water. Use mild soap. Rinse. Air dry.
